WITH the opening of classes moved to October 5, the Department of Education (DepEd) yesterday encouraged parents and guardians to enroll their children for the school year 2020-2021.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Brinose said she has ordered all public schools in the country to continue accepting enrollees.
According to DepEd’s national enrollment data, the total number of enrollee in public and private schools, including state universities and colleges (SUCs) as of August 17 now stands at 23,311,861, which is 83.88% of the total number of last year’s enrollees.
Of the number, 21,644,699 are enrollees in public schools, including 424,735 who transferred from private schools. The current total enrollment of 1,624,259 in private schools is 37.73% of the total enrollment in 2019.
Briones said all public schools in the country, through regional offices and school division offices, must continue preparing for the new opening of classes.
“We will make sure that by Oct. 5, 2020 everything is ready for the opening of classes,” she said, adding there is enough time to correct all the mistakes in the learning materials to be used for the new school ear.
