SEN. Ronald dela Rosa yesterday vouched for the integrity of Lt. Col. Jovie Espenido, saying rogue policemen may be behind the latter’s inclusion in President Duterte’s list of narco policemen.
“He is my man and as I have said, I am vouching for his integrity,” said Dela Rosa, a former PNP chief, during an interview at Camp Crame where he graced the celebration of the 29th anniversary of the PNP Maritime Group.
Dela Rosa said he knows Espenido as an “upright” officer and insisted that he should be excluded from the list of narco cops.
Espenido, one of the poster boys of the Duterte government’s war on drugs, has denied involvement in the illegal drugs trade and said his inclusion in the list was a product of intelligence failure.
Dela Rosa agreed, saying information against Espenido appears to have not been fully deliberated.
He said ninja cops, or policemen involved in the recycling of seized drugs, and other rogue policemen could be behind the inclusion of Espenido in the list. Dela Rosa said he did not come across the name of Espenido during his time as PNP chief.
