Deaths now 10,942; 1,266 new cases


    SIXTY-EIGHT more patients succumbed to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) disease while 1,266 new cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday.

    In all, the deadly virus has claimed the lives of 10,942 persons for a 2.06 case fatality rate while the total number of infections in the country rose to 530,118.

    There were 130 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 487,721. The DOH said this means that 92 percent of patients had recovered.

    There were 31,455 active cases, of which 88.8 percent are mild cases, 5.8 percent asymptomatic cases, 2.5 percent critical cases, 2.4 percent severe cases, and 0.53 percent moderate cases.

    Meanwhile, 25 more overseas Filipinos were infected with the deadly virus, bringing the total to 14,041.

    The Department of Foreign Affairs said there were two new deaths in the Middle East and African regions, bringing the number of Filipinos who succumbed to the virus to 610.

    The Middle East and African regions also led in the number of overseas Filipinos infected with the virus at 7,881.

    Overall, 954 Filipino nationals abroad have died of the virus. The DFA said there were 10 new recoveries, bringing the number of survivors to 8,964.

    The city of Manila reported 39 new 19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 390. There were also 32 new recoveries. – With Ashzel Hachero
