Cop suspect in 2009 Maguindanao murder cases nabbed

    A POLICEMAN accused in the gruesome November 2009 Maguindanao massacre was arrested in Sultan sa Barongis town in Maguindanao on Monday, it was reported yesterday.

    The suspect, Patrolman Suari Esmael Pagabangan, alias Alfie Pagabangan, was arrested by policemen from Regional Mobile Force Battalion-12 in barangay Barurao at around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

    Police said Pagabangan was nabbed by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Quezon City judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes.

    The Department of Interior and Local Government has offered a P300,000 reward for the arrest of Pagabangan.

    On Tuesday last week, Patrolman Ysmael Baraquir, also an accused in the Maguindanao massacre, surrendered to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Pagalungan town, also in Maguindanao.

    Solis-Reyes has handed down a verdict on the 10-year-old case last month. Four members of the Ampatuan clan, including brothers Datu Andal Jr. and Zaldy, were among those found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

    Following the release of the verdict, Solis-Reyes issued arrests warrants for at least 80 massacre suspects who remained at large, including12 policemen. The policemen included Inspector Michael Joy Ines Macaraeg, who was allowed to post bail during the trial.
