THE provincial government of Bataan has earned praises from the Commission on Audit for its initiatives to reduce the volume of solid waste generated by businesses and households that would otherwise end up in landfills.

In the 2019 audit of the province released on June 9, the COA said Bataan was able to put into action its strategies even while its Provincial Solid Waste Management Plan (PSWMP) remains pending review and approval by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region 3.

The provincial government said it is aiming to be an active partner of its component city and municipalities by complementing their own efforts in implementing solid waste management programs.

Part of the plan is to provide counterpart contribution to capital investments like infrastructure, vehicles and equipment; establish an Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF); and extend technical assistance in related concerns through the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board or the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO).
