A Chinese female tourist died while 22 other Chinese tourists, two Filipino tour guides, and three crew members of a motorbanca were rescued after their boat capsized off Boracay Island in Aklan yesterday.
Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Capt. Armand Balilo said the boat, named Jocelyn 1, was on an island-hopping trip when it encountered bad weather in Barangay Balabag.
“The crew members reported that motorbanca ‘Jocelyn 1’ encountered strong winds that broke the boat’s outrigger, causing it to capsize,” said Balilo.
Balilo said personnel from the PCG Sub-Station Boracay were promptly dispatched to rescue those on board.
Balilo said all were accounted but one of the tourists, identified as 45-year-old Hongfang Kuai, 45, died.
Balilo said three more Chinese tourists lost consciousness and were hospitalized. “They have regained consciousness and are declared safe and in good condition.
The rest of the tourists, the tour guides and the crew members are in ‘good physical condition,’” he said. – Victor Reyes
