Cameroonian jumps into Pasig river, is rescued


    PHILIPPINE Coast Guard personnel rescued a Cameroonian who jumped into the Pasig River in Makati City on Wednesday morning reportedly to avoid a group of men running after him.

    Johnson Obi, a consultant of the Intituion Media, was rescued by the PCG’s Search Opertion Unit shortly after jumping from the Valenzuela Ferry Station in Makati around 6 a.m.

    In a statement, the PCG said Obi claimed he was “handcuffed by unknown bystanders at his residence in Makati City. He managed to escape and jumped off Pasig River to save himself from his perpetrators.”

    Obi was later turned over to the custody of the police “for proper disposition.” – Victor Reyes
