Calida’s appeal to access Leonen’s SALN junked

SOLICITOR General Jose Calida has failed to convince the Supreme Court (SC) to have access to the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALN) of Associate Justice Marvic Leonen.

Brian Keith Hosaka, spokesman of the high court, rejected Calida’s appeal during their en banc session on Tuesday.

“The Court denied the motion for reconsideration dated October 22, 2020 filed by the Office of the Solicitor General praying that the resolution dated September 15, 2020 be reconsidered and set aside, and a new resolution be issued granting the OSG’s letter-requests dated September 11, 2020 seeking copies of the SALNs and ancillary documents and information,” Hosaka said in a briefer issued to reporters covering the beat.

It will be recalled that lawyer Larry Gadon to file a quo warranto case against Leonen which he accused of allegedly not filing his SALN from 1989 to 2003 and from 2008 to 2009 when he was serving as a faculty member at the University of the Philippines.
