A BUSINESSMAN and his driver were arrested by police on Sunday night in Angeles City for allegedly offering a bribe of P1.5 million to police officers in exchange for the release of a Frenchman who had been arrested for a drug-related offense.
PNP chief Debold Sinas identified the businessman as Aaron Christian Bolus, 31, of Mabalacat City in Pampanga and his driver as Joseph Julius Gonzales, 24, of Porac town, also in Pampanga.
Sinas said Bolus and Gonzales were arrested in an entrapment operation inside the field office of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Angeles Cityt on Sunday night.
The two reportedly tried to bribe police officers for the release of Julien Barbier, 39, a Frenchman under the custody of the CIDG field office in Angeles City. Barbier was arrested before noon on Friday by CIDG and Bureau of Immigration operatives at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat City.
He is wanted by the Interpol, or the International Crime Police Organization, for unlawful transport, retention, offer, sale, acquisition or use of drugs.
Sinas said Bolus and Gonzales will be charged for violation of Article 212 (corruption of public official) of the Revised Penal Code.
