FOUR Army soldiers transporting relief goods for victims of the Taal Volcano eruption were injured when their truck fell into a ravine in Tanauan City, Batangas yesterday morning.
Police identified the four as Sergeant Michael Mendaros, Corporal Marlon del Mundo and Privates First Class Jerric Barrientos and Corpuz.
Brig. Gen. Marceliano Teofilo, commander of the AFP’s Joint Task Force Taal, said the soldiers’ truck was among the six-truck convoy transporting relief goods from Fernando Air Base in Lipa City to Laurel town.
Teofilo said the relief goods were donated by President Duterte’s partner, Honeylet Avanceña; spouses of Cabinet members; and Hinabang Foundation Inc.
Teofilo said the convoy was traversing Barangay Panadero in Tanauan at around 5 a.m. when one of the trucks, avoiding a tricycle, fell into a five-meter ravine. Relief goods aboard the ill-fated truck were transferred to another vehicle and later brought to Laurel while the five other trucks proceeded to their destination.
Teofilo said the injured soldiers were treated at the CP Reyes Hospital in Bantangas and later transferred to the General Nakar Hospital in Quezon.
“The show must go on, its (accidents) part of our job,” said Teofilo.
