Agusan town police chief arrested for extortion

OPERATIVES of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) on Tuesday arrested town a police chief in Agusan del Sur for robbery-extortion.

Capt. Junil Gultiano, officer-in-charge of the Buenavista municipal police station in Agusan del Sur, was arrested inside the police station during an entrapment operation which was conducted on the complaint of members of the Buenavista Furniture Association, said IMEG chief Col. Ronald Lee.

The complainants alleged Gultiano has been demanding P500 from association members in exchange for their unhampered operation, on top of P5 per board feet of lumber they can sell.

Gultiano was nabbed after receiving P1,000 in marked money from one of the complainants.

On top of the criminal case of robbery-extortion, Gultiano will face an administrative charge which may lead to his dismissal from the service.

“We have arrested another police officer accused of extortion in line with our continuing implementation of (PNP chief) Gen. (Archie) Gamboa’s directive to go after rogues in uniform regardless of their rank and stature,” said Lee.

Lee encouraged the public to report to IMEG illegal activities of policemen through hotlines 09989702286 and 09957952569. He vowed IMEG will “immediately and properly act” on the complaints.
