Abu Sayyaf member killed in Sulu

    A MEMBER of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf was killed in a firefight with operatives of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Operation during an anti-gunrunning operation in Panamao town in Sulu on Saturday.

    AKG chief Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo identified the fatality as Wahid Sahid, who is associated with the group of Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Almujir Yadah.

    Estomo said AKG operatives, backed by other PNP units and Marines, arranged to buy rifles from Sahid at around 10:30 a.m. in Sitio Buton, Barnagay Kansipat in Panamao town.

    After the deadl was completed at Sahid’s lair, the poseur buyer signaled his fellow lawmen to arrest the suspect.

    But Sahid opened fire at the arresting personnel using his M14 rifle. The troops returned fire, killing him.

    Recovered at the scene were three M14 rifles, including the one used by Sahid; an M4 cal. 5.56 mm with an M203 grenade launcher, magazines and ammunition.
