Abu Sayyaf kidnaps doctor in Jolo

ABU Sayyaf bandits abducted a medical doctor in Jolo town in Sulu on Tuesday night, bringing to six the number of captives in the hands of the group.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the AFP Western Mindanao Command in Zamboanga City, said efforts are underway to locate the victim, Dr. Daniel Moreno.

“Upon receipt of the information, we immediately launched pursuit operations. Meanwhile, our special units are ready to conduct safe rescue when the location is fixed,” Sobejana said.

Morena was seized by four armed men in his clinic in barangay Walled City in Jolo town at around 7 p.m.

Sobeja said the suspects forced Moreno to a van and sped towards Indanan town.
Sobejana said “the perpetrators are ASG members.”

Wesmincom spokesman Maj. Arvin Encinas said personnel from the Metro Jolo Interagency Task Group, composed of military forces and police, are “currently operating to rescue Moreno and apprehend his captors.”
