SIX Chinese wanted by Beijing for defrauding fellow Chinese of their hard-earned money through an online lottery gaming scam were arrested by immigration personnel last August 30.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the Chinese nationals were nabbed in an operation by the bureau’s Fugitive Search Unit in Makati and Pasay.
Morente said Wang Yaru, Yu Ming Wei, Wei Chunxue, Li Zhi Cheng and Lin Huzi were arrested in a condominium at the Circuit Shopping Complex in Carmona, Makati while Zhou Zhongyi was collared outside Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport while he was about to flee the country.
“They will be deported for being undesirable aliens and for being undocumented. Their passports were all revoked by the Chinese government. Afterwards, they will be blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philippines,” Morente said.
BI intelligence officer and FSU Chief Bobby Raquepo said based on information provided by their Chinese counterparts, the six conspired to defraud their victims of money, allegedly amounting to nearly US$100 million by operating a fraudulent mobile application called “Fast 3 Lottery” via the internet. – Ashzel Hachero
