4 motorcycle robbers killed in Surigao

FOUR members of a group involved in motorcycle robbery were killed Friday in a firefight with government troops in Tago town in Surigao del Sur, police said yesterday.

Two of the fatalities were identified through their IDs as Nulludin Hadjula, 60, of Indanan town in Sulu, and Alkamar Nuluddin, 24, of Jolo town, also in Sulu.

Troops from the Army’s 3rd Special Forces Battalion and Tago police station put up a checkpoint in Barangay Jubang after they were alerted on cases of motorcycle theft in Prosperidad and San Francisco towns, both in Agusan del Sur.

Early morning Friday, the troops flagged down two motorcycles as they were approaching the checkpoint. The suspects, however, ignored the troops and sped off, prompting the lawmen to give a chase.

Moment later, the suspects abandoned their motorcycle in Barangay Unidos and opened fire at the troops. The four ran towards their alleged safehouse where the fighting continued.

During clearing operations, the troops recovered the bodies of the four suspects.

The cadavers were brought to the San Nicolas Funeral Hones in Tandag City in Surigao del Sur.

Also recovered were a cal. 45 pistol, an Ingram M11 subcompact machine pistol, two grenades, assorted ammunition, gun parts, and two motorcycles. – Victor Reyes
