3 NPAs killed in Isabela gunfight


    THREE New People’s Army rebels were killed and three others, including a 16-year-old male, were arrested after a firefight with government forces in Ilagan City in Isabela on Sunday.

    Troops from the Army’s 502nd and 95th Infantry Battalions conducted security operations in Barangay Rang-ayan on Saturday to check reports from residents on the presence of communist rebels in the area engaged in extortion activities.

    The troops accosted the rebels and told them to surrender but the rebels choose to fight it out with the soldiers, said Maj. Noriel Tayaban, spokesman of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division based in Gamu town in Isabela.

    Troops recovered an M16 rifle, three cal. 45 pistols, and ammunition after the gunfight.

    Tayaban said an NPA rebel who has surrendered to the military named two of the fatalities as alias “Bobby” and “Princess,” squad leader and team leader/medical officer of the rebel group.

    Captured were 16-year-old who goes by the alias “Jimboy,” an alias “Leslie,” and an alias “Alvin.”

    Lesli and Alvin are the supply officer and team leader of the NPA’s Central Front.

    Tayaban said Jimboy is a member of the Dumagat tribe.
