3 men found guilty of disrespecting national flag

A QUEZON City Metropolitan Trial Court has found three men guilty of violating the National Flag Code after they failed to stop walking as a police community precinct was holding its flag-raising ceremony during the Independence Day celebration in 2018.

In a two-page decision dated January 17, 2020, Judge Sheena Marie Abella-Davis of the QCMTC Branch 17 ordered Christian Joseph Pablo, Mark Genesis Quino and Patrick John Baluyot detained for six days.

The three were charged for disrespect of the national flag after they continued to walk even after they heard the National Anthem playing while the Police Community Precinct 12 at Eastwood City in barangay Libis, Quezon City had its flag-raising ceremony.

Violation of RA 8491 carries a fine ranging P5,000 to P20,000 or imprisonment of one year, or both.

The shorter imprisonment sentence on the three was due to the fact that they pleaded guilty to the offense.

Abella-Davis said the three were deemed to have already served their sentence when they were detained at PCP 12. – Raymond Africa
