2 Chinese kidnap victims rescued; 2 Chinese kidnappers nabbed

OPERATIVES of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group rescued two Chinese kidnap victims and arrested their two captors, who are also Chinese, in Las Piñas City last Sunday, police reported yesterday.

AKG spokesman Maj. Ronaldo Lumactod identified the rescued victims as Jiang Xiao Hao and Li Weizu, while those arrested were Weng Zhiting and Cheng Guo.

Lumactod said Xiao and Li were rescued by AKG men led by Col. Villaflor Bannawagan during a raid of the suspects’ safehouse in BF Resort Village in Las Piñas City at around 2:45 p.m. last Sunday.

Lumactod said the two suspects were arrested during the same operation. They yielded cell phones, cal. 38 bullets, two handcuffs, plastic straps and other pieces of evidence.

Lumactod said the operation was conducted based on the complaint of Jiang’s wife, Yang Lingyu, who reported to the AKG her husband’s kidnapping on August 7 at the Regency Salcedo in Bel-air, Makati City.

Citing initial investigation, Lumactod said the suspects, before the kidnapping, enticed Jiang to exchange from them peso to Chinese Yuan, offering a rate higher than those offered by banks. Lumactod said the initial transaction went well.

During the second transaction on August 7, the suspects seized Jiang and took about 80,000 RMB (about P500,000) he had exchanged.

During his captivity, the kidnappers contacted the wife of Jiang and demanded 500,000 RMB (about P3.5 million) for the release of her husband.

Police operatives were able to trace the suspects’ safehouse during follow-up operations.
Lumactod said Jiang and the other kidnap victim, Li, do not know each other. He said the two met only at the safehouse.
