2 carnappers killed, 2 others wounded in shootout with police


    TWO suspected carnappers were killed while two others were injured and arrested in a shootout with operatives of the PNP Highway Patrol Group in separate operations in Bulacan and Laguna on Tuesday and Wednesday.

    PNP Highway Patrol Group director Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum said HPG operatives launched a dragnet operation along a bypass road in Barangay San Roque in San Rafael, Bulacan after receiving a report of a motorcycle being carnapped at around 3 a.m. in Barangay Sampaloc, also in San Rafael town.

    HPG men later spotted the suspects who were aboard the stolen motorcycle and were ordered to stop. The two, however, opened fire at the HPG men and slammed into the front bumper of the cops’ mobile patrol car before speeding sped off.

    The policemen returned fire, leading to the death of the suspects and recovery of the stolen motorcycle. Also seized were two handguns.

    In Laguna, two motorcycle carnappers were wounded and arrested after a shootout with HPG operatives in Calauan town.

    At around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the suspects robbed Crisanto delos Santos of his cellphone and took his Russi motorcycle in Barangay Lamot 2, Calauan town.

    HPG personnel and local policemen conducted hot pursuit operation against the suspects who were traced in Purok 3, Barangay Balayhangin, also in Calauan town, at around 3:15 a.m. yesterday.

    As the lawmen approached, the suspects opened fire, wounding one of the policemen, S/Sgt. Diosdado Casupang Jr. The lawmen retaliated, wounding the two suspects who were later collared.
