PRESIDENT Duterte has promoted to the next higher rank two brigadier generals and eight other senior military officials, including one in charge of handling the financial resources of the Armed Forces.
Now ranked major general are Romeo Brawner Jr., AFP deputy chief of staff for financial management, and Efren Baluyot, commander of the Army’s Armor Division based in Capas, Tarlac.
Brawner and Baluyot belong to Class 1989 of the Philippine Military Academy.
Brawner, who assumed his current post just last month, served as Commandant of Cadets at the PMA in Baguio City where he focused on the fight against hazing in the academy; commander of the Army’s 103rd Brigade in Marawi City; and deputy commander and spokesman of the Joint Task Force Ranao that was involved in stopping members of the Maute Group that attacked and occupied several barangays Marawi City in May 2017 for five months.
Baluyot has served as deputy commander of the Armor Division and commander of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
Promoted from colonel to brigadier general were Eric Nicanor, commander of the AFP Systems Engineering Office; Domingo Gobway, commander of the Joint Task Force Basilan; George Banzon, commander of the Army’s 901st Brigade; Danilo Benavides, commander of the 502nd Brigade; Col. Rosalio Pompa, commander of the Army’s Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group; Krishnamurti Mortela, commander of the Army’s 701st Brigade; and Antonio Bautista Jr. commander of the Army’s 1101st Brigade.
Promoted from Navy captain (colonel in the Army and Air Force) to commodore (brigadier general) was Florante Gagua, commander of the Sealift Amphibious Force of the Navy’s Philippine Fleet.
