The pieces for Raul Isidro’s “Living Elements” are based on the Greek classical elements: Aqua, Aer, Ignis and Terra. In Greek philosophy, science, and medicine, these four elements represent the realms of the cosmos wherein all things exist and whereof all things consist.
For Isidro, breaking things down to their basic components, their essential elements, and then seeing how they interact presents an interesting opportunity to explore the natural world and local ecosystems. The artist’s latest exhibit is a form of higher abstraction and a divergence from his previous series of earth and boulders inspired by his native Samar.
Isidro’s oeuvre captures the place where outer nature meets inner nature – where the natural world meets the nature of the human spirit. From its calm serenity to its powerful strength, nature reminds us of what we are made of at our core. We see our strength and stability in the mountains, our kindness and courage in the trees, our peace and tranquility in the water, our wisdom and power in the wind, our passion and possibility in the stars.
Living in a time that has become increasingly busier, where people are more connected to technology and less to nature and to themselves, the artist believes that it is more important than ever to retreat from the chaos, and return to the clarity within. Through nature, one can see that peace, harmony, and infinite wisdom already exists within – and it is this place that Isidro expresses in his art.
This abstractionist, multi-awarded painter, and Filipino contemporary artist shares his time in promoting art and honing talents of next generation artists. A distinguished pioneer in the art field, Raul Isidro’s earnest belief that “art must be felt to be fully enjoyed” has strengthened his crusade to develop and encourage art appreciation in the grassroots.
Demonstrating his creative genius in numerous media as a professional artist, Isidro’s artistic accomplishments and creativity has been showcased in various art exhibitions locally and in foreign shores including Germany, Israel, Spain, China, the Netherlands, Australia, and the United States.
