“Florescence” by visual artist Milmar Onal continues to pay homage to the master Sanso as he knew him: monumental in his importance in the art world, philosophical, and bearing witness to the unwinding of time by his careful and detailed observation of nature. This exhibit explores the fundamental designs of the still-life genre where symmetry, color, and pattern all play important roles on a canvas’ grand stage of attraction.
Milmar Onal aims to depict Sanso’s legacy and importance in the current context; simultaneously, the exhibition is meant to reflect on how an artist is influenced or shaped in his own time, and how ideas, thoughts, and inspiration flow continually from predecessors to the younger generation.
Abstractionist Milmar Onal is a painting graduate from the University of Santo Tomas.
At the Art Lounge Manila, two simultaneous one-man shows by Karina Baluyut will be on display. For “Paradiso”, Karina Baluyut’s works reflect on the importance of environmental soundness – by speaking to emotions and passions for nature, and by unlocking an ethereal or even ancient sense of freedom and awe about nature. The paintings aim to accentuate extraordinary features and emphasize the sublime beauty of nature as interpreted by the artist.
While “Imperio” is more of the man-made side of the earth: with focus on science, culture, traditions. The works seek to explore the unfolding relationships with the world, and with one another.
The two diversely-themed exhibits explore the middle ground where nature and order meet. The depictions in Baluyut’s paintings mix the factual and observed with the invented and the personal. This exhibit is about the artist’s unbridled curiosity; particularly in the area where art illuminates ideas and blurs the boundaries between nature, science, philosophy, and human experience.
Karina Baluyut is a visual artist from the Philippines. Her paintings are expressionist in nature. Her abstract works are defined by color fields, organic patterns, and bold brushwork. Baluyut is among the original members of the Guevarra Group of Artists from its inception, and one of the first to have exhibited their works at Galerie Joaquin.
“Florescence” by Milmar Onal will be on view from February 2 to 11, 2020. “Imperio” and “Paradiso” by Karina Baluyut will be on view at Art Lounge Podium from February 3 – 12, 2020 with the Artist Reception scheduled February 12, Wednesday at 6 PM.
