“Your package will be delivered today,” is an SMS that many Filipinos receive that brings a semblance of joy amidst the quarantine, be it for an essential good or an item of leisure. However, while thousands enjoy the privilege of safely waiting at home, frontliners like Ronnel Legaspi brave the roads to ensure that the package you have ordered online is delivered to your doorstep seamlessly. Ultimately, bringing you a sense of excitement much like a present being handed to you on your birthday or Christmas.
Ronnel is a rider for Ninja Van Philippines, a last-mile logistics company that seeks to empower business owners and customers with innovative delivery services through people-centered and technology-driven solutions.
“More than compassion, what frontliners need most are working conditions that can protect them and their loved ones despite the risk brought about by the pandemic. For our delivery riders, providing job opportunities and strict health safety measures enable them to continue providing for their families,” said Martin Cu, Ninja Van Philippines Country Head.
Like Ronnel, Jovanne Rosit is one of the thousands of Ninja Van riders who choose to continuously serve Filipinos, especially those who are at risk and need essential goods the most like senior citizens and families with infants.
Jovanne decided to become a rider because he enjoys travelling to different places in his motorcycle. As he works towards his goal of owning a property and a car one day, Jovanne said he is not too worried about the pandemic because he is well taken care of.
Working as a rider is not an easy task, but the dedication displayed by riders like Ronnel and Jovanne enable them to earn a living for their families while keeping 40-50 families safe at home every day.
