‘Humingi nga ako ng tips sa father ko, who everyone knows is a good comedian. – Winwyn Marquez’
WINWYN Marquez is enjoying her role as a funny contravida to Lovi Poe in “Owe My Love” that starts airing on Monday on GMA primetime. She plays Trixie Gibs, the ex-girlfriend of Benjamin Alves who desperately wants to reconcile with him.
“Challenge for me ‘yung role kasi nga villain siya, pero may twist and touch of comedy, kasi laging pumapalpak ang schemes niya,” she said. “First time ko gagawin ito kaya excited ako. Humingi nga ako ng tips sa father ko, who everyone knows is a good comedian. I have to bring out the inner Joey Marquez in me.”
Lovi Poe, the show’s leading lady, butted in at this point during the zoom con and told Winwyn. “You have nothing to worry about kasi you’re a good comedian. You have perfect comic timing nga.”
Winwyn profusely thanked Lovi. They have previously worked together in the lock in taping of “High Rise Lovers” for “I Can See You,” so they’re already good friends. It’s common knowledge that Lovi has a boyfriend based in the US now, Montgomery Blencowe. How about Winwyn? What’s the state of her heart at the moment?
“Well, after three years, masaya ako as I’m not single anymore,” she said.
So they won’t be together on Valentine’s Day since their lock-in taping will be until March.
“Okay lang naman. He understands na trabaho ito. Hindi naman ako masa-sad kasi kasama ko sina Lovi and the rest of the cast on Valentine’s Day.”
Is she aware her ex-boyfriend, Mark Herras, is now the dad of a baby boy as his partner Nicole Donesa just delivered their child?
“Oh yes. I’m happy for him. Wala kaming chance magkita kasi we don’t have a project together. But I will congratulate him when we see each other.”
GMA has a new product and guess who is their endorser. Alden Richards, who else? It’s obvious that Alden is now the number one Kapuso star as he’s always the face of every new product that GMA introduces. He’s now endorsing GMA NOW, a mobile digital receiver for android smart phones. You can just plug it into your phone and you can go watch TV anywhere you are for free.
“I’m happy to be chosen as the ambassador for GMA Now, a new technology you can turn your phone into a smart TV anytime,” said Alden. “You can now watch TV anywhere and any time. It’s really an honor to be the brand ambassador of new devices like GMA Now. It’s perfect for people who don’t want to miss out on their favorite shows and be updated on the latest happenings in the world of news and entertainment.”
It also comes with a chat feature that will sure be a useful tool and a source of amusement for friends. “And then there’s also the Groupee chat, where you can chat with your friends and get the latest updates about your favorite Kapuso shows. Pwede ka rin makipag-chat sa friends mo habang nanonood kayo ng parehong show nang sabay. Di ba ang cool lang, parang pwede n’yong pag-usapan kung ano ‘yung eksena na pinapanood n’yo? At meron ding exclusive promos and games sa GMA Now app!”
About his next big project, Alden says he might start shooting his movie with Bea Alonzo for Viva/GMA/APT Entertainment at the last week of this month.
All our grandchildren grew up watching “Blue’s Clues,” an educational show for kids that helps them learn easily. It was originally hosted by Steve Burns. Now, do you know that the new host of “Blues Clues” is a Filipino? He is Joshua de la Cruz and the show’s now titled “Blue’s Clues & You.”
Josh took the audition and he bested hundreds of applicants, including wrestler-actor John Cena. Born in Dubai but now based in New Jersey, he started as a theater actor, debuting in Broadway in “Aladdin.” Other musicals he has appeared in are “Here Lies Love,” “Merrily We Roll Along,” and “The King and I.”

What do Ai Ai de las Alas and Nova Villa have in common? They are both mainstays in the cast of GMA’s new primetime show, “Owe My Love,” where both of them also play very important roles. But more than that, they are both Papal Awardees, meaning, they both received honors from the Holy See awarded in the name of the Pope as a recognition of merit for their services to the Catholic Church.
“’Yung award ko, five years ago, ‘di ko ine-expect,” said Ai Ai. “I was shocked kasi it’s the highest award given by the Pope to lay people. Ang nag-recommend sa akin, si Bishop Antonio Tobias of the Novaliches Diocese.”
Ai Ai is a Marian devotee who has been helping the church, the poor and various charities, but she’s quiet about it. She even held a concert for the construction of the Kristong Hari church. No wonder blessings continue to pour for her. Right after “The Clash,” she now has a new show in “Owe My Love,” where she plays the role of Lovi Poe’s wacky boss.
“Ang name ko Vida Morales, and I own the Vida Rolling Store where Lovi works,” she said.
“Ang character ko tuwing lalabas on screen, naka-outfit nang bonggang-bongga, kaya iba-iba ang costumes na sinusuot ko rito. Kontrabida sa amin ni Lovi si Jackielou Blanco na karibal ko rin sa pag-ibig. Si Lovi, Guipit ang apelyido kaya laging nagigipit, so pinapautang ko siya.”
When the show’s Zoom con was held last Thursday, they were all still on lock-in taping in a resort in Bulacan. How is it doing lock in taping with the cast which some stars have turned down?
“Naku, for me, huwag na tayong mag-inarte kasi maraming tao ang walang trabaho ngayon. We should just be thankful na may trabaho pa rin tayo, kahit lock in, which is for our own safety rin naman. At ako, nag-e-enjoy ako kasi masaya kaming lahat sa set.”
