Vianca Marcelo resumes her journey

VIANCA Louise Marcelo, 25, an assistant business manager from Bocaue, Bulacan, is one of the 40 official candidates for Binibining Pilipinas 2020 that was stalled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that restrictions are easing up for the resumption of the 57th edition of the country’s premiere beauty pageant, Vianca is excited to resume her Binibining Pilipinas journey.

Vianca is the sister of Global Asian Model 2019 third runner-up Vince Leonard Marcelo. With the support and motivation of her family and friends, Vianca feels she has reached where she is now, and to be one of the 40 official candidates is already an achievement in itself.

Not new to the world of fashion and pageantry, Vianca also joined Miss World Philippines in 2015 where she finished as one of the Top 13 finalists.

She also vied for Reyna ng Aliwan Fiesta 2015 where she represented the Singkaban Festival of Malolos, Bulacan and finished as joint second runner-up alongside Gazini Ganados (Miss Universe Philippines 2019) of Cebu’s Sinulog Festival, and Jaymie Lou Pagulayan of Isabela’s Bambanti Festival.

With her advocacy “Rise Above Hunger,” Vianca hopes that joining Binibining Pilipinas will give her the bigger influence and voice in order to help the community’s most in-need.

For the national costume competition, which ushers in the resumption of activities for the pageant, Vianca dons a mystical sarimanok-inspired costume that is depicted as a fowl with colorful wings and tail, and holding a fish on its beak that symbolizes good fortune for everyone who sees it. The magnificent yellow modern Filipiniana gown represents the color of hope and joy amidst the crisis that the world is facing now.

The ensemble is embellished with jeweled sarimanok patches on the bodice of the gown adorned from the famous and unique embroidery technique in Bocaue, Bulacan called kadineta, considered an art and world-class craftsmanship that has been passed on through generations.

The unique cultural creation by Paolo Blanco fuses artistry from Luzon (kadineta embroidery and Filipiniana terno) and Mindanao (sarimanok headpiece).

The screening for the next candidates of Miss World Philippines who will vie for the seven titles at stake was held at the Red Hotel last Wednesday and Thursday with national director Arnold Vegafria, general manager Arnold Mercado, Miss World Philippines 2019 Michelle Dee, Miss Eco Philippines 2019 Kelley Day, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2019 Katrina Llegado, Miss Multinational Philippines 2019 Isabelle Daza De Leon, Miss Eco Teen International 2020 Roberta Tamondong, Miss Eco Teen Philippines 2019 Daena Resurreccion, and Miss World Philippines 2019 2nd princess Casie Banks.

The winners will compete for Miss World, Miss Supranational, Miss Eco International, Reina Hispanoamericana, Miss Multinational, Miss Eco Teen International and Miss Tourism crowns.
