HENRY Cavill (of “Superman” fame) stars as Geralt in Netflix’s “The Witcher.” Together with series show runner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, they graced the press conference in Manila last month hosted by Matteo Guidicelli at Conrad Hotel Manila. The press meet was followed by a promo tour at Ayala Malls ASEANA.
The series began streaming its first season on Netflix last December 20.
“The Witcher” is an American fantasy drama web television series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix. It is based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski.
Cavill revealed he knew about “The Witcher” very early on, having been into video games when he was young. When he learned about the book series and upcoming show, he became more passionate about the fantasy drama and asked his agent to find a way to get involved in it.
Cavill finally got a call for an audition in New York and the rest is history.
Hissrich revealed more than 200 talents auditioned for the role of Geralt but singled out Cavill’s voice that fit the character to a T.
“The Witcher” was filmed on location in Vienna, Austria, Hungary, Poland and the Canary Islands in Spain.
Originally meant to be adapted as a standalone film, the producers were dissuaded by Kelly Luegenbiehl, vice president for International Originals at Netflix, and do a TV series. The book series itself consists of eight novels.
Even before positive reviews from critics (Rotten Tomatoes has flipped it from “rotten” to “fresh”) as well as from fans rolled out, a second season is in the offing, announced on November 13, 2019.
