SORSOGON’S Maria Isabela Barlin Galeria, one of the 51 contestants for Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) 2020, has tested positive for COVID-19.
The 21-year-old registered nurse posted on her social media accounts last Sunday: “Hello everyone. With so much sadness in my heart, I regret to inform you that I tested positive for COVID-19 rtPCR. This news breaks my heart deeply and I apologize if ever I put you at risk.
“We followed and did all the safety precautions to safeguard from the infection, however it still found us. I have spoken with those that I saw recently. My team, my MUP sisters and those I had close contact with in Manila all tested negative.
“I am in isolation and quarantined now. I ask whoever came into close contact with me to please inform your city/municipal health officers and their team to check on your condition. Hoping that I did not pass on to you the virus.
“I am truly, deeply sorry. Kindly find it in your hearts to include me and my family in your prayers.”
Her fellow candidates expressed their best wishes and support for Galeria’s speedy recovery from the coronavirus.
MUP creative director Jonas Gaffud said Galeria may still join the pageant if she tests negative after her 14-day quarantine.
The contestants will be undergoing a vital shoot altogether and will be on ‘lockdown’ for several days in a still undisclosed place and venue in strict compliance with all the necessary health protocols imposed by government health authorities.
The finals, to be aired on GMA 7, will be held on October 25.
The ball has started rolling for Miss Earth 2020 with the virtual Earth Talk where the delegates from each of the regional groupings expressed their views on health and economic issues amid the pandemic. The excitement peaks beginning October 13 when the preliminary competitions and judgings begin.
The virtual coronation night of the 20th Miss Earth pageant will be aired live on Fox Life on November 29.
