‘Big blessing talaga siya for me – Sanya Lopez’
SANYA Lopez never thought she’d play the title role of “First Yaya” as it’s originally conceived for Marian Rivera who backed out. Sanya got the surprise of her life when GMA-7 then tapped her for the coveted role.
“Big blessing talaga siya for me,” she said. “And it gave me the chance to work with Gabby Concepcion. I was intimidated at first kasi siempre, Gabby Concepcion siya. Kinikilig ako sa kanya. Sabi ni Direk L.A., wag ko alisin ang kilig kasi kailangan sa character ni Melody. It’s part of the magic daw. At first, parang very formal si Kuya Gab, but sa lock in taping in La Union, okay pala siya, napag-Tiktok ko pa siya, na never daw niyang ginawa sa buong buhay niya.”
Has she any experience being a yaya?
“Sa bahay, ako ang nag-aalaga sa lola ko at sa mga pamangkin ko, so parang yaya rin ako roon. Doon ako humugot para sa role ko as Melody in ‘First Yaya.’”
“First Yaya” is now shown simultaneously at 8 p.m. on GMA-7 and GTV.
Diego Loyzaga started his career exactly ten years ago when he returned from Australia and joined the cast of “Mara Clara” in 2011. His last soap was “Los Bastardos” on ABS-CBN in 2018, during which time, he had a meltdown and took a leave from showbiz.
He is now making a comeback in the TV5 romantic drama series, “Encounter,” and he was asked about what happened to him.
“I just needed a break, a much needed break,” he said. “May saying na if you’re having… if it’s too much, it’s always better to take a break than force it. I just really needed to take a break, to reflect on what I want to do in five years, in ten years. What career path I want to take. I wanted to go back to my studies, stuff like that, so it was just time to reflect. And I can say that it was a long enough break and now I’m ready to work again. I’m so glad to be back working and I want to thank Viva and TV5 for this good project where I’m paired with Cristine Reyes for the first time.”
“Encounter” is a local adaptation of a hit Korean series and is a co-production venture of Viva, Cignal and Sari-Sari shown on Saturday 9 p.m.
So how is it working with Cristine who’s noted for being a “maldita” before?
“I didn’t experience it,” he said. “She’s nice to me from Day 1. Wala kaming workshop dito at all. Shoot na agad at nag-click agad kami sa music that we listened to together and in watching the sunset in Ilocos that is a big part of the love story of the characters we’re playing, Selene and Gino.”
How is it doing their love scene?
“It was my first intimate scene. It’s okay. Si Direk Jeffrey Jeturian trusted us, pinabayaan lang kami. He didn’t give any detailed instructions and I think we did good naman.”
What would he say is the biggest encounter he made in his life?
“There are two that had a big impact in my life. First is when I met my dad (Cesar Montano) for the first time when I was young. Then when I met my girlfriend, Barbie Imperial.”
Carla Abellana reminds loyal viewers of “Love of My Life” that the show will be ending this week. She admits it’s one of the most successful TV dramas she has ever done and the overwhelming positive feedback of netizens attest to this.
“Most of them are requesting for a book two,” she says. “But even if me and my co-stars also like it, hindi naman kaming actors ang magde-decide but the management. So let’s just pray for that.”
What does she think is the reason why the show is a hit with televiewers?
“First and foremost, maganda kasi talaga ang characterizations. And viewers can relate with them and their situations in life. Like my character, si Adelle, nai-in love sa kanyang brother-in-law, si Mikael Daez as Nikolai, but he is also involved with another woman, Rhian Ramos as Kelly.”
Viewers have formed their own opposing camps into Team Adelle and Team Kelly. “I think we offer something different kasi kaya nakaka-identify sila. Some viewers text me, kung mahal mo si Nikolai, that’s ok lang. So what if he’s your brother-in-law? But meron din namang kampi kay Rhian kasi her character is already pregnant.”
It’s her first time to work with Coney Reyes as her derisive mother-in-law. How is it?
“Nung umpisa, I admit, medyo intimidated ako with Tita Coney as she’s a veteran in the industry and quite formidable. So natural lang na may konting kaba ako, pero nawala rin naman agad kasi nga she turned out to be so down to earth.”
Don’t miss “Love of My Life” in its explosive last few episodes and its unforgettable conclusion on Friday. It will be replaced by “On My Way to You” in the new season of the hit drama anthology, “I Can See You,” on GMA.
Cignal Entertainment partners with Regal Multimedia in producing “Gen Z,” an exciting new young adult series shown Sundays at 9 p.m. It will help viewers get to know better the fearless world of today’s younger generation, their dreams, aspirations and struggles to find their own place in the sun.
“Gen Z” has a young and talented cast led by Jerome Ponce, Jane Oineza, Ricci Rivero, Melizza Jimenez, Chie Filomeno, Kent Gonzales and Darwin Yu. Jerome and Darwin are also currently in the cast of Regal’s BL web series, “Ben X Jim.” Jerome as Jojo and Kent (the son of Sharon Cuneta in “Kuwaresma”) are brothers. Playing their friends in their barkada are Jane as Matet, Darwin as Rico, Chie as Gina, Ricci as Migo and Melizza as Michelle.
Jerome said he enjoyed doing the show as it’s about young people who want to understand other people and also want other people to know them better.
“Maraming makaka-relate dito kasi it’s about love, friendship, growing up, facing bigger responsibilities as you mature, and also learning to cope with problems and with people you find hard to get along with,” he said. “Ako mismo, I had a gap with my dad before, kasi he wants me to finish my studies and not join showbiz. So for about a year, we had a gap, but when he saw how much I enjoy what I’m doing at may pinupuntahan naman ang career ko, we got to relate with each other better.”
