‘Reflection’ has a place in Moira’s heart

Disney Philippines taps singer-songwriter Moira Dela Torre to be the voice of “Reflection” in the re-imagined version of Disney’s “Mulan.”

At the Mulan listening party, Moira recalled how she felt when she learned she had been tapped to sing the song and revealed how “Reflection” has always had a place in her heart.

“I became very emotional, because ‘Reflection’ is very special to me,” she said, “It’s the first-ever song I performed in public, and also the first full song that I learned on my own. It basically launched my love for music.”

Years later, she said that “Reflection” continues to be relevant because it reflects how her life has been. “It’s funny how it speaks about self-doubt and questioning who you see on the mirror every day. That’s basically me, but every time I feel that happening now, I feel braver. This song came back at a perfect time in my life, and I could only be happy and grateful.”

The 2020 re-imagined version of Disney’s “Mulan” is directed by Niki Caro.

The epic tale is about a legendary warrior who risks everything to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known.

When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her innerstrength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.

Disney’s “Mulan” arrives in Philippine theaters on March 25.
