Rabiya has a fighting chance for the Miss Universe crown

Guess who Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo reminds pageant fans of?

Those who are in their 60s or 70s will see the resemblance of Rabiya to Lalaine Bennett, the former actress who was the first Filipino Miss Universe.

Lalaine was the third runner-up in Miss Universe 1963 that was held in Korea.

“Magkamukha sila,” said an observer, an entertainment writer who had the chance to interview Lalaine many times. Lalaine was, according to the writer, one celebrity who easily granted interviews.

Like Rabiya, Lalaine was also multiracial. Lalaine’s mom was Filipina and her dad was American. Lalaine grew up in Bayombong, Nueva Ecija.

On Rabiya, the writer said Rabiya has a fighting chance of winning the Miss Universe crown.

“Bakit hindi? Swertihan din kung minsan ang pagiging winner,” replied the writer. “Not many thought Gloria Diaz would win Miss Universe in 1969. Well, it’s on record that she is our first Filipina Miss Universe.”

‘Those who are in their 60s or 70s will see the resemblance of Rabiya to Lalaine Bennett, the former actress who was the first Filipino Miss Universe.’

Speaking of Gloria, the 69-year-old actress remains as ravishing as before. She also continues to be busy as an actress.

She is in “Oh My Dad,” along with Ariel Ureta, Dimples Romana, Sue Ramirez, and Ian Veneracion.

Gloria has two daughters, Isabelle and Ava, and one son, Raphael.
Isabelle, incidentally, is pinch-hitting for Alex Gonzaga in TV5’s “Lunch Out Loud.”

The reason? In a video vlog, Alex has revealed that she, her fiancé Mikee Morada, her parents, Boyong and Pinty Gonzaga, and a staff were COVID-19 positive.

She is glad her parents were asymptomatic, while she and Mikee, plus her staff, all experienced loss of smell and taste, sore throat, among other symptoms.

Bryan Revilla, eldest son of Senator Bong Revilla and Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado, is being praised for how he directed the documentary of his grandfather, former Senator Ramon Revilla, Sr., which was shown last week on GMA New TV.

Bryan helped in researching his lolo’s life. Among the things he found out was that his Lolo Ramon had 80 children. All of the grandkids carry his Lolo Ramon’ surname.

It was Ramon Revilla, Sr. who authored the bill allowing illegitimate children to use their father’s surname.

Actress and Ystilo Salon owner Vina Morales has decided to go into the food business.

“With my sister, Shiela, I’m now selling suka (vinegar), tuyo and daing, as well as peanut butter,” said Vina. “Those who follow my vlog know this. They are my regular customers.”

She tends to her own business, while Shiela ships the products.

“Ako ang naglalagay ng suka sa bote, nagbabalot ng tuyo, daing, pati na ng pag-a-ayos ng bagoong at peanut butter,” said Vina. “And, so far, so good.

“Hindi lang nakakalibang, additional income pa. And who doesn’t need ng dagdag na kita these days?”

Speaking of Shiela, we learned that she has actually been separated from husband Federico Moreno, son of the late German Moreno, for some time now.

The couple have four grown children.

Now, of course, it’s common knowledge that Federico is dating Harlene Bautista, who is separated from actor Romnick Sarmenta, with whom she has four kids. She has one child with director Rico Gutierrez.

Meanwhile, Romnick and his girlfriend, Barbara Ruaro, recently revealed on social media that they are expecting a child.
