Preparing for a comeback

SOPHIE Albert, formerly with TV5 and now a GMA talent, was with comedians Pepay and Betong Sumaya at the GMA Christmas party for the entertainment press last Tuesday.

She looks sexier and prettier now, very different from how she looked when she and boyfriend Vin Abrenica won in TV5’s “Artista Academy.”

Wonder how she feels now that TV5 reportedly will revive its entertainment department, to be headed by its ex-vice president for programming, Perci Intalan.

Perci co-owns IdeaFirst Company with his husband, Jun Lana. Both are accomplished writers, directors and producers.

Back to Sophie, she is a granddaughter of the late Josephine Cojuangco-Reyes, a sister of former President Corazon Aquino.

Sophie and her aunt, Kris Aquino, have yet to work together. Well, as we all know, Kris is now more active on social media. She remains a sought-after endorser, but her most important role, of course, is being the mother of Josh and Bimby.

Miles Ocampo does not want to talk about her tampuhan with Kathryn Bernardo anymore.
The lead actress in “Write About Love,” the Metro Manila Film Festival entry of TBA Studios, said she is just happy everything’s all right now between her and Kathryn.

“Ang importante, we are friends again. In fact, she sent word na happy siya that I have an entry in this year’s MMFF,” related Miles.

“Write About Love” is her first lead role. She is paired with Rocco Naccino, a Kapuso actor.

Ruffa Gutierrez proudly reveals she has a special role in the Vice Ganda-Anne Curtis MMFF entry, “The Mall, The Merrier.”

“Parang extra lang,” she replied. “kaya, I’d rather not say what. Pero masaya ako na kasama ako sa pelikula, since it is a fun movie. I’m sure, the moviegoers will love it.”

It has been a while since Ruffa was in a TV or movie project.

“She plans to be active next year, 2020,” said a kibitzer. “She loves ‘Unbreakable,’ which features her brother Richard, Angelica (Panganiban) and Bea (Alonzo).

“It so happened that she was classmates with Mae (Cruz-Alviar), who is at the helm of ‘Unbreakable.’ Ruffa said she told Direk Mae na sana maidirek din siya nito sa isang movie o show.”

Direk Mae’s next assignment for Star Cinema, we heard, might be a “KathNiel” project.

Is it true that John Lloyd Cruz and Ellen Adarna have called it quits?

Well, John Lloyd had Elias in tow in Kyoto, Japan, for the wedding of Vhong Navarro and writer Tanya Bautista.

We heard that Dr. Vicky Belo, who was one of the principal sponsors at the wedding, talked to John Lloyd, possibly about a possible showbiz comeback for the actor, who has been out of the limelight since 2017.

John Lloyd used to play the husband of Toni Gonzaga in the sitcom, “Home Sweetie Home,” where Ellen played the office secretary.

Aiko Melendez has chosen to not comment on the issue of her ex-husband, Parañaque Councilor Jomari Yllana and his estranged partner, Joy, with whom he has two children.

Aiko is currently enjoying a flourishing career. She has a series on GMA, plus endorsements. And she has, of course, mommy duties. Her son with Jomari, Andre, is now also in showbiz. Aiko also has a daughter, Marthena, with her ex-husband, chef Martin Jickain.

Aiko is in love with incumbent Zambales Vice Governor Jay Khonghun, and they have talked about marriage.

It will be Aiko’s third marriage, if ever.

Arjo Atayde and girlfriend Maine Mendoza buckled up for work soon after their California trip.

The two are both busy. Arjo is promoting the second season of his digital series, “BagMan,” while Maine, aside from hosting “Eat Bulaga,” is in the Metro Manila Film Festival movie, “Mission Unstoppable.”

Love bloomed between the two while shooting last year’s MMFF entry, “Jak Em Popoy,” which stars Coco Martin and Vic Sotto. They have been inseparable since.

Arjo and Maine’s families have met – and approve of the match.

As Arjo’s mom, actress Sylvia Sanchez, said, “Anytime, welcome ng aming family si Maine.”
