THE year has just started but showbiz is already abuzz with hot stories about the lives of various stars. Robin Padilla is said to have impregnated infamous Duterte supporter Mocha Uson, but no less than his wife, Mariel Padilla, denied it, saying it’s just a baseless piece of gossip. She adds that rumormongers should spare Robin from chismis because he’s now grieving as his older brother Royette just died.
Kapuso actor Kristoffer Martin, currently in the cast of the new soap “Babawiin Ko ang Lahat,” confessed that he is an unwed father. He sired a daughter with a non-showbiz girl and she is now four years old and he and her mom have since broken up.
Singer-actress Roxanne Barcelo announced she is now infanticipating at 36. She just got married last month. Although she has announced her pregnancy, she has yet to reveal the identity of her husband. This prompted one writer to maliciously ask: “Baka may sabit?”
Alex Gonzaga admitted that she had a quiet wedding with non-showbiz husband Mikee Morada at their home last November yet, but they didn’t make it public right away.
Rocco Nacino also had a quiet wedding with volleyball player Melissa Gohing on Thursday, January 21. This was held at a Philippine Navy Battleship since he’s a reserved officer of the local navy.
Meantime, Jomari Yllana says he has had enough of the social media postings made by his former non-showbiz partner, Joy Reyes, and threatens to sue her for maligning him. Joy accused the actor-politician of neglecting their two kids. Their electric bill amounts to P100,000 and since she has no money to pay it, their electrical connection was cut off.
Jomari countered her electric bill accumulated to such a big amount because she’s making her house a “motel” where she invites male guests. Joy answered back and said this is just a diversionary tactic for Jomari because he cannot address the true valid issues she has against him. “Ganun po talaga, kung anu-ano na lang ang topic, kapag walang masagot sa issue na kailangang sagutin.”
Looks like 2021 is off to an intriguing start in local showbiz. Expect more fireworks to explode in the days to come.
It’s just the first month of 2021 and already there are a lot of hot stories about the lives of celebrities.
Glaiza de Castro and Jasmine Curtis Smith are together for the first time in the movie “Midnight in a Perfect World,” an entry in the recent QCinema International Film Festival that gained critical acclaim as a horror film that is loaded with some political undertones about the government’s current war on drugs.
This is a futuristic movie set in a distant time when Manila already has a world class mass transport and drainage system, but where blackouts happen nightly. Produced by Globe Studios and Epic Media Productions, “Midnight in a Perfect World” will be available via streaming on Upstream starting January 29.
Glaiza just returned from Ireland, still suffering from jetlag, when she attended the movie’s Zoom press con last Monday night. She spent the Christmas holidays with fiancee David Rainey and his family. So she’s dead sure he’s the right man for her?
“When I went there, I didn’t know he already planned his proposal along with his sisters,” she said. “On my third day, doon siya nag-propose. There was a time that I doubted him, but the Lord always shows me David is the guy na ibinigay Niya sa akiin. Through David, I felt ‘yung blessing, ‘yung love ni Lord sa akin.”
So are they planning to wed soon?
“We’re not in a hurry to get married. We have to consider first kung paano magtatagpo ang pamilya niya from Ireland and ‘yung pamilya ko na nandito, what with the pandemic going on. But hopefully, with the vaccine, baka magkaroon na ng linaw ang problema about traveling.”
A new young LOVE team is born in the “MiKel” tandem of the new show, “The Lost Recipe,” that stars Mikee Quintos and Kelvin Miranda. It started airing last week, Monday to Friday at 8 p.m., and it not only went trending on Twitter but is now officially the highest rating show of GMA News TV Channel 11.
Online viewers all agree that MiKel is the new love team to watch out for. “We were not sure then kung magki-click ang show at ang bago naming tambalan sa viewers,” said Mikee. “But now, we are grateful sa suportang ibinigay nila sa show. Everyone also says napakaganda ng production values ng buong show.”
What’s Mikee’s impression of Kelvin before the show started?
“At first, I really thought he’s distant, parang masungit siya. I felt he won’t open up and he has walls around him so, in defense, itinaas ko rin ang walls ko. But after we had our whole day workshop, unti-unti, nakilala ko siya, lalo na nang nag-taping na kami. It turned out I just misunderstood him lang pala. Kasi ako, madaldal akong tao, I communicate easily.
Siya, it takes time for him to warm up pero slowly, nago-open up siya and now, I can say we’ve known each other better.”
Elijah Canlas won an international acting award in Estonia and the Urian and FAMAS best actor awards last year. This is for his role as a wayward teenager who’s diagnosed to be HIV positive in “Kalel, 15.” He considers 2020 as a real blessed year for him as he also gained full stardom via the online Boys’ Love hit, “Gameboys.”
Before 2020 was over, the company managing him, IdeaFirst, cast him in the TV5 soap “Paano ang Pasko?” which proved to be such a big hit that it’s extended beyond the Christmas season and is now retitled as “Paano ang Pangako?” Its story now mainly revolves on Elijah.
“I play Noel, raised by my mom, played by Julia Clarete,” he said. “But, growing up I never really knew who my dad is. Then it turns out that his family is alive pa pala, headed by Tita Bing Loyzaga as their matriarch, who wants to destroy the family I grew up with headed by Tita Maricel Laxa.”
So where does the conflict lie? “Gusto akong kunin ni Tita Bing from my mom’s family as my dad turns out to be her son and I’m their heir. She will do everything to get me from them and they will tell me secrets that will make me want to join them. We’re lucky na designed lang ito noon as a Christmas special, but na-extend kasi nga nag-click sa audiences and the network saw its potential as a teleserye.”
He’s so happy to be working continuously. “Masaya talaga ako kasi first time ko gumawa ng ganitong soap. Ang shoot namin has two separate units. Marami akong eksena with both units involving the two rival families, kaya patalon-talon ako sa magkabilang units. I’m so proud of my role kasi as Noel, sa akin nga umiikot ang story.”
Right after their lock in taping for “Paano ang Pangako,” he’ll start shooting Book 2 of “Gameboys,” whose first season is still being shown on Netflix. They have released the trailer of the new season of “Gameboys” and the response is also overwhelming.
