LOVI Poe celebrated her recent birthday in the USA with her boyfriend, Montgomery Blencowe. They were together for almost two weeks but she had to return to Manila for the promo of “Hindi Tayo Pwede” that opens in theaters tomorrow. When its press con was held at Botejyu Fisher Mall last week, she just returned that morning from the US but it looks like she has no jetlag at all as she was bubbly and vibrant throughout the Q&A portion. So how’s her vacation?
“It’s definitely worth it and I think I deserved it kasi the past few months, I got busy doing several movies and TV shows,” she says. “Naging very happy ang birthday ko on February 11 at pati Valentine’s Day na rin. At sa pag-uwi ko ngayon dito, magiging busy na rin ako taping for my new show sa GMA-7 with Benjamin Alves, a rom-com entitled ‘Owe My Love’ with Ai Ai de las Alas, Nova Villa and Ruby Rodriguez, kaya it’s good na nakapag-rest din ako.”
Her last movies with Regal, “The Escort,” “Woke Up Like This” and “The Annulment,” are all box office winners, so Lovi is confident and optimistic that “Hindi Tayo Pwede” with Viva will also perform beautifully at the tills. It will have its premiere night at SM Megamall tonight, Tuesday, March 3.
“This is an unusual movie kasi dalawa ang leading men ko and they’re both good actors, Marco Gumabao and Tony Labrusca. First time ko to do a movie with both of them and we quickly became comfortable with each other with the help of our director, Joel Lamangan, na gamay ko na kasi we’ve worked several times before in ‘Sagrada Familia,’ ‘Lihis,’ ‘Sigwa,’
‘The Bride and the Lover’ and ‘The Significant Other’.”
She loves being paired with her new leading men. “They’re both very responsible and professional, real gentlemen even in the love scenes we did. I know people will talk about the love scenes, but I hope hindi lang ‘yun ang mapansin nila sa movie because the story is really different and very involving. After all, the script is written by Sir Ricky Lee no less.
Asset din ang title song naming ‘Hindi Tayo Pwede’ ng The Juans na bagay na bagay sa movie.”
Carlo Aquino is endorsing Beautederm’s newest line of products created especially for men who matter, Spruce & Dash, conceptualized by the company’s president, Rhea Anicoche-Tan.
“I’m thankful that Beautederm has come up with new products for busy guys like me,” says Carlo who plays the role of a Muslim in “Soldier’s Heart” and is busy with three new movies. “I face a lot of people every day at work and my work as an actor requires me not only to look good but also feel good all the time. The Spruce & Dash collection helps me take good care of my skin and my personal hygiene even if I have a very hectic daily schedule.”
Why is the collection called Spruce & Dash? It’s Rei Tan who replies: “Spruce connotes neatness in dress and appearance while Dash means forceful or compelling but done with flamboyant vigor and confidence. These products will really make men well groomed, dashing and debonaire. So bagay na bagay ito for good-looking, but busy guys like Carlo.”
Carlo is in a serious relationship with model Trina Candaza. In case they’d tie the knot, will Rhei Tan agree to be a “ninang”?
“Of course!” she says. “I will even shoulder the expenses for their wedding reception!”
Carlo says he and Trina haven’t seriously talked about settling down, especially now that he’s busy with so many projects. He has even just released a new single with Rico Blanco, “Balisong.” Last year, he got a lot of bashing when Angelica Panganiban expressed her disappointment after he allegedly made her hope that they’ll reconcile, but it didn’t happen.
“Last year was really a nightmare,” he says. “First time for me to experience that kind of grabeng bashing. I really didn’t mind it, but when other people around me na wala namang kasalanan also got bashed at dinamay pa, doon ako nasaktan.”
Tom Rodriguez opens a new educational channel online where he aims to impart lots of information about a variety of subjects to today’s young people. “I will post enlightening but entertaining videos about history, science, mathematics and other subjects that will broaden their horizons and cultivate their minds,” says Tom, who is really one of our smartest actors today. “The internet is flooded so many useless videos that don’t really help shape the minds of our youth to be more productive. So I want to provide them with alternative content na makakatulong para mas tumalas at lumawak ang pag-iisip nila.”
Meantime, the followers of his hit GMA primetime show, “Love of My Life,” are worried because his character, Stefano, might die any time soon due to his terminal illness. There are many fans requesting GMA in social media not to kill him yet and to extend his role in the show. They love the show as it’s full of realistic family drama and if Stefano would make an exit, they would all feel very, very sad.
“Nagpapasalamat talaga ako sa lahat ng sumusubaybay sa ‘Love of My Life,’” says Tom.
“Talagang involved sila sa mga nangyayari gabi-gabi at nagre-react sila kaya naman laging mataas ang ratings namin. I wish ma-extend pa talaga ang life ni Stefano, but when I accepted the show, alam ko namang special participation lang talaga ang role ko roon. But with such request from the fans na huwag munang mamatay si Stefano, it will all depend sa creative team ng show kung iga-grant nila ang request na ito ng viewers namin.”
Incidentally, GMA has switched the time slots of the two shows before “Love of My Life.” “Descendants of the Sun” is now shown right after “24 Oras,” followed by “Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday.”
Rocco Nacino’s ongoing romance with Jasmine Curtis Smith in “Descendants of the Sun” has gained a lot of loyal fans who are rooting for their romance as Moira and Diego.
“We were honestly surprised with the very warm reception that the viewers gave us,” says Rocco at the special lunch press con hosted by GMA-7 for him and Jasmine. “Kami mismo nagulat pati sa reactions sa social media. Marami talagang nanonood ng show who sympathize with the forbidden love of the characters we play and are cheering us not to lose hope and to fight for our love.”
The love story of Sgt. Diego (Rocco) and Capt. Moira (Jasmine) is really very engaging as it’s a forbidden romance. Moira has a higher rank and is also a doctor, so her dad, who’s a general, is against her love affair with Diego, who was told to avoid Moira because he belongs to a lesser social status. But Moira won’t accept it and continues to earnestly pursue Diego even if he’s doing his best to resist her. So, will Diego eventually relent and defy Moira’s dad to reciprocate her love for him?
“Of course, we cannot reveal that. Basta abangan nyo na lang.”
How is it working with Jasmine?
“It’s so easy to relate with her. Three weeks pa lang ang show on the air but actually, seven months na naming tine-taping ito so we’ve become very good friends. We engage in a lot of small talk sa taping and friend ko rin yung boyfriend niya, si Jeff Ortega, na una ko pang nakilala sa kanya because I met him when we shot a movie ni Solenn Heussaff sa province nila, in La Union.”
