Singing legend, entertainment icon, Hall of Famer, multi awarded performer and “Undisputed Jukebox Queen” Imelda Papin has not only endeared herself to countless fans, both here and abroad, but has carved a niche in the annals of Philippine musical history – all in a span of 45 years. Certainly a feat in an industry touted as fickle and indifferent.
It all started when as a little girl, Papin would join and sing in church processions in a quaint small coastal village in Bitaogan, Camarines Sur. She later joined an amateur singing contest in Bicol, which is the local version of “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” winning as a weekly champion and proceeding to be the undefeated champion.
Her family soon migrated to Manila to seek better opportunities. While studying in the daytime, where she would fetch water to take a bath before going to school, she would later sing at first in small venues where she earned P5 a night, and eventually performed in bigger places.
Interestingly, she was a superstar in Bangkok, Thailand where she was dubbed as “Asia’s Sentimental Songstress” before caming back to the Philippines to be immediately embraced as the new singing sensation with her heartfelt and sincere performances.
This year, she celebrates her musical journey and career milestone in her show “IMELDA PAPIN: Queen@45” on October 26 at the Philippine Arena, the biggest arena in Southeast Asia. Enlivening the show are her special guests: Andrew E., April Boy Regino, Claire dela Fuente, Darius Razon, Eva Eugenio, Jovit BaldIvino, Marco Sison, Pilita Corrales, Sonny Parsons with Hagibis and Victor Wood.
Also joining her are daughter Maria France (Maffi) with her three kids Keif, Zach and Xavier, sisters Gloria and Aileen, Garry Cruz and “Millennial Artist” LA Santos.
Ticket prices have been made affordable to accommodate more concertgoers – the Music Queen’s way of giving back the love that her followers and music enthusiasts have shown her through the years.
The anniversary concert is produced by DreamWings Production and Papin Entertainment Productions. For tickets, please log on to smtickets.com or go to any SM Box Office Ticket Booth
