Ian shares daughter’s coming out story


    IAN Veneracion revealed on “Magandang Buhay” how his only daughter, Deirdre, came out to him as lesbian.

    One time, he related, he was tinkering with his motorcycles when Deirdre approached him.

    Ian said: “Sabi niya ‘Daddy, I have to tell you something.’ Sabi ko, ‘What? Sit down.’ Sabi niya, ‘I like girls.’ Tapos sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Me also I like girls.’ So parang nagtataka siya, sabi niya, ‘It’s okay?’ Sabi ko, ‘Yes. Just don’t be ever apologetic about it, not even to me.’

    Sabi ko, ‘You can be whoever you want to be and I have full support.”

    Deirdre, or Dids, was teary-eyed and asked how he knew her sexual preference.

    “Bata ka pa, ang macho mo na,” he told her.

    Dids is one of the children kids of Ian and wife of 26 years, Pam Gallardo. The couple’s other kids are sons Duccio and Tristan Draco.

    According to Ian, when he told Pam about Deirdre’s preference for girls, her casual reply was, “Kung saan siya masaya, masaya ako.”

    Dids studied in Australia. She and her dad share several similarities. She is also an athlete and a painter like Ian, who has had several one-man shows. She plays the guitar and sings like Ian, who will soon share the stage with Ogie Alcasid for the concert, “Kilabotitos.”

    “Kilabotitos,” which is scheduled at the New Frontier Theater on March 20 and 21, will feature Ian ang Ogie singing the songs popularized by the Beatles, James Taylor, Hall and Oates and Spandau Ballet.

    Both said they will make sure to encourage their audience to sing along with them, as well as join them in their laugh out loud repartee.

    Ian and Ogie are two of the busiest talents in showbiz. Soon, they might be together in a sitcom that will also include Ogie’s wife, Regine Velasquez.

    Right now, Ogie is kept busy as one of the judges in “Tawag ng Tanghalan.” Ian, meanwhile, is in the popular Kapamilya series, “Make It With You,” with Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.

    Regine Velasquez revealed she would volunteer to be a principal sponsor of Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli.

    The singer said that when she performed with Sarah at their “Unified” concert at the Big Dome recently, she had no idea the couple was set to wed.

    Regine said she is happy for the newlyweds. She added that the couple not only look together, but are also so in love.

    Sarah and Matteo wed at the Victory Christian Church at The Fort. Their pastor was Paolo Punzalan, the younger brother of former actress Princess Punzalan.

    Last Sunday, JayR and Mica Javier got hitched in Boracay.

    Mica is a singer and songwriter like JayR. She is a niece of APO Hiking Society’s Danny Javier. Her dad, Sandy Javier, is the mayor of Javier, Leyte.

    The Javier family owns Andok’s.

    Mika was last seen in the series, “Los Bastardos,” with Jake Cuenca, Marco Gumabao, Ronaldo Valdez and Kyle Versoza.


    Maine Mendoza has given in to fans’ request and is now a recording star.

    She has just released her first single, “Parang Kailan Lang.” She hopes to do more recording, said the host-actress.

    Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Arjo Atayde, is planning on producing a movie soon.
