ACTRESS-COMEDIENNE, TV host, newspaper columnist and philanthropist Giselle Sanchez is taking a leap into a new field in her colorful and meaningful life.
The 45-year-old AB Mass Communications graduate (magna cum laude) from the University of the Philippines is donning the sash of “Philippines-Visayas” in the forthcoming Noble Queen Universe 2020, an advocacy-centered pageant for married women worldwide.
Inaugurated last year by Malayan Bank senior vice president Ereline Noche Tumali, who herself won as Mrs. Universe Ltd. in Bulgaria in 2012, the pageant is organized by the Respect Noble Queen Universe Ltd. Inc. and drew 17 delegates from around the world this year, each one with their own advocacies and noble causes to champion.
Giselle was persuaded by actress-singer Patricia Javier, who won the top title of Noble Queen Universe in the inaugural tilt held last year at the Manila Hotel.
Giselle and her husband Emil Buencamino initially thought of the idea was a joke, but upon learning of the noble causes and opportunities for a bigger voice to help, Giselle finally gave in to Patricia’s egging and eventually got Emil’s 100 percent support.
Beauty pageants are not exactly an alien field for Giselle. She has hosted quite a number of beauty pageants, including MBC’s annual Reyna ng Aliwan Fiesta.
“It is my honor to announce that I was chosen out of hundreds of advocacy-driven family women to represent #noblequeenvisayas2020. I was hesitant to accept this position at first but when I saw the advocacies of @noblequeenuniverse and how they SINCERELY helped a lot of people especially during this pandemic and typhoon disasters, I agreed to join this pageant mainly to raise funds to be able to help my fellow Filipinos. Akong mga kababayang Bisaya, mangayo kog suporta sa inyuha. Thank you! See you all via zoom on Dec 13, 2020. I would like to thank #noblequeenoftheuniverse2019 @patriciajavier1 for convincing me to take this leap and represent my region to be able to help others,” Giselle wrote on social media.
Giselle has, for the past 20 years, been helping families in hard-up communities through the Giselle Sanchez Foundation which she put up to give them sustainable livelihood.
“In joining Noble Queen Universe 2020, I believe I will have a bigger voice to be able to give sustainable livelihood to poor families especially the homeless and financially incapable women who are victims of abuse.
“Why give them fish that can last for only so long when you can teach them how to fish?” Giselle added.
The rest of the delegates are: Ria Genevieve Bolt, Jamaica West Indies; Malou Toler, USA-Hollywood, CA; Mai Okawa, Japan; Cecile Cinco, Philippines-Mindanao; Liza Castillo, Vietnam; Catherine Coo Pulido-Catalan, Philippines- Antipolo; Aira Bella Luna, Philippines-Zambales; Kristy Salazar, Mexico; Remarie Dinogan, USA-East Coast; Aditi Ahuja, India; Rhonda Renee Swan, USA; Megan Camaisa, USA-Southern California; Jameen Streetman, USA-West Coast; Anne Relampagos Natividad Villanueva, Philippines-Mindanao; and Anna Perez, Philippines-Pampanga.
