ELLEN Adarna just came from a seminar on total detox and mental training in Bali, Indonesia where she stayed for two weeks all alone. She says she felt the need to do it because she has depression and became mentally and emotionally weak. She did meditation and several exercises that required her to get in touch with her inner self.
She later posted her reason for this in her social media account: “To everyone asking, I did mental training coz I was stuck in this black hole for almost three years. My anti-depressants didn’t do me any good, it made me immobile and numb. I was getting weaker mentally and emotionally – something had to be done. I can now finally say, after 3 years of struggling… I am no longer a prisoner in my own mind. Ahhhh!!! Freedom we meet again!”
‘She did meditation and several exercises that required her to get in touch with her inner self.’
It will be recalled that these past three years, she shacked it up with John Lloyd Cruz in Cebu. She now implies that those three years were hell for her and she felt like living in a black hole. Wonder how JLC now feels about this. To think that JLC gave up his career to be with her and they had a son named Elias.
How fast the cookie crumbled. But even then, several quarters were already predicting that “hindi naman magtatagal ang mga ‘yan.”
Ellen has had several past boyfriends, including cager JC Intal (now married to TV host Bianca Gonzalez), businessman Filo Gueco (with whom she joined GMA’s “Survivor Philippines”), non-showbiz guy Raul Olbes, Raymond Romualdez (son of Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez) and presidential son Baste Duterte.
JLC, in turn, is also notorious for having his own string of several celebrity girlfriends, among them Ciara Sotto, Kaye Abad, stylist Liz Uy, Ruffa Gutierrez, Shaina Magdayao and Angelica Panganiban. Some of them felt bitter and devastated after he dumped them. Obviously, his motto is “love them and leave them.”
In other words, the history of both Ellen and John Lloyd in being in a relationship with anyone has always been precarious and they’re both veterans of failed relationships. It’s apparent that they’re just not the type who can hold on and stick to just one partner.
And so, c’est la vie! Life goes on and on to the next conquest. Meantime, here’s praying that their son will have a normal happy childhood despite what happened to his parents.
Lotlot De Leon says she has let bygones be bygones as far as her recent conflict with ex-mother-in-law Pilita Corrales is concerned.
“I’m okay,” she says at the contract signing of her son, Diego Gutierrez, with Leo Dominguez. “Okay na ako kasi it was just a burst of emotions naman for me. Tao lang naman akong nagsalita para sa anak ko (Janine Gutirrez). We’ve all moved on, tapos na ang issue at huwag na lang palikihin pa. Maski si Monching (Pilita’s son who’s her ex-husband), naintindihan naman niya kung saan ako nangagaling that time.”
What did Janine herself say as a reaction to her Mamita and to her rant against Pilita?
“Naku, si Janine, quiet lang naman yan lagi. That time kasi, wala rin siya, she went to New York for the U.S. Fashion Week, so busy siya roon.”
Monching Christopher, the dad of her four kids, was with her at the contract signing along with her current Lebanese husband, Fadi El Soury, and they look like they’re one big happy family together.
“Kami naman ni Monching, when it comes to our kids, pareho kaming nakatutok sa kanila. So, lahat ng alam ko tungkol sa mga bata, alam din niya, at ganun din ako sa kanya. Given na ‘yun as the parents of our children. ‘Pag may concern, isang tawag lang naman to inform each other. And I think our children naman appreciate it na we are always there for them nang magkasama.”
So if a movie company would offer a project for her, Monching, Janine and Diego, would she do it?
“Okay lang sa akin, walang problema, lalo at maganda ang material for us. Pero dapat, mas mag-shine ‘yung mga anak namin, lalo na si Diego na siyang pinakabago sa aming pagdating sa showbiz.”
Alfred Vargas is the congressman of QC’s 5th district but he has not forgotten his showbiz roots. He has completed two new movies, “Kaputol” with Cherie Gil that just had its world premiere at the recent Bangalore International Film Festival in India, and “Tagpuan” with Iza Calzado and Shaina Magdayao that is an official entry in the coming Summer Metro Manila Film Festival, which has seen been postponed due to the lockdown.
“I’m proud and happy na parehong maganda ang feedback sa dalawang movies na nagawa ko,” he says. “Sa India, very positive ang feedback ng mga nanood. They really like ‘Kaputol’ which touched on martial law and its socio-political message. Dito naman sa ‘Tagpuan,’ it’s an honor na mapahanay sa lineup ng iba pang entries na mostly quality films and starring respected actors like Nora Aunor, Phillip Salvador, Dingdong Dantes, Michael de Mesa at marami pang iba.
“I’m so delighted na napasama kami sa walong official entries gayong mahigit two dozens daw ang pinagpiliang movies na lumahok. I want to thank the screening committee for giving us the chance na mapabilang sa festival na ito na very impressive ang lineup of entries kaya sobrang saya ko talaga.”
In “Tagpuan,” Alfred plays Allan, a successful businessman who’s separated from his wife, Agnes (Iza Calzado). Then he meets Tanya (Shaina Magdayao) as Tanya in Hong Kong and they have an affair. The three of them would later be all together in New York where their tangled relationships will figure in a complicated finale.
How is it working with Iza and Shaina?
“Ang sarap nilang kasama kasi very supportive pareho at pareho ring napakagaling, both committed to their respective roles. We talked a lot about our roles and how we’ll do our scenes before the camera. Sa panahon ngayon, andaming ginagawa ng mga tao, andaming nangyayari, but in the end, the movie shows na kung ano ang klase ng itinanim mong relationships, ‘yun din mismo ang aanihin mo. Hopefully, maraming makaka-relate sa sitwasyon ng mga character dito and what they’re going through.”
GMA Artist Center has renewed the contracts of various Kapuso artists. First is chinito heartthrob Manolo Pedrosa who first signed up with GMA in 2018. Now, he plays the male lead in the upcoming drama show, “Babawiin Ko ang Lahat,” opposite Pauline Mendoza.
“I’m very grateful to GMA for trusting in me and renewing my contract,” he says. “I’m happy to be paired with Pauline and we both vowed to do our best to make this series a big success. Buti na lang close na kami kasi we’re together in the workshops conducted by New York acting coach Anthony Bova, so kilala na namin ang isa’t isa. May trust and connection na between us because of the workshops we did together.”
‘Tween stars Elijah Alejo and Julius Miguel of the very successful Afternoon Prime show, “Prima Donnas,” also renewed their contracts as Kapusos.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to grow more as a regular talent of GMA Artist Center,” says Elijah, who plays the role of Aiko Melendez’ villainous daughter, Brianna. “We’re also happy kasi patuloy na pataas nang pataas ang rating ng ‘Prima Donnas,’ so salamat po sa lahat ng patuloy na nanonood sa aming show every afternoon from Monday to Saturday. It’s great to be part of the show kasi, sa school namin, pati teachers ko, Brianna na ang tawag nila sa akin.”
“Ako po, proud talaga to be a part of GMA and of ‘Prima Donnas’,” says Julius, who plays Uno. “Naging family na po kami ng lahat ng cast members ng aming show, pati ng production staff and crew. Seven months na kaming magkakasama taping the show kaya close na kaming lahat sa isa’t isa. At sana mas tumagal pa, kaya huwag kayong bibitiw sa panonood dahil marami pang exciting twists na mangyayari sa mga darating na episodes.”
Two child actors also renewed their contracts with GMA Artist Center: Raphael Landicho and Euwenn Aleta. Raphael is currently part of the hit primetime drama, “Love of My Life,” playing Andrei, the son of Carla Abellana. He says he’s so happy to be part of the show as everyone on the set is nice to him.
“Lahat po sila, mabait talaga sa akin, from Tita Carla and Tita Coney Reyes, hanggang kina Tito Mikael Daez and Tita Rhian Ramos,” adds Raphael. “Enjoy po talaga ako lagi sa taping namin.”
Euwenn, in turn, is a mainstay in the GMA Public Affairs informative program “AHA!,” which is hosted by Drew Arellano and won as best educational program. He thanked the viewers for their continued support of ‘AHA!” “Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng nanonood ng shows ko sa GMA, lalo na kay Kuya Drew Arellano na mabait sa akin,” he says. “At happy po ako sa lahat ng blessings na binibigay sa akin ng GMA at lahat ng fans ng aming show.”
GMA-7 stuck to their regular programming up to last Tuesday, but starting yesterday, they’ve ran out of fresh new episodes for some of their shows so they’re now showing replays of their previous hit soaps. In the afternoon, they’ve ran out of new episodes for “Magkaagaw” with Sunshine Dizon, Sheryl Cruz and Jeric Gonzales, so this will be temporarily replaced by another story about marital infidelity that was a blockbuster hit then, “Ika-6 na Utos,” also starring Sunshine with Gabby Concepcion and Ryza Cenon.
On primetime on GMA, there are no more fresh episodes of “Anak ni Waray Vs. Anak ni Biday” topbilled by Barbie Forteza and Kate Valdes, so this will be replaced by the hit drama, “Kambal Karibal,” starring Bianca Manalo, Miguel Tanfelix and Kyline Alcantara.
“Descendants of the Sun” starring Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado will had a new episode until only last night but by tonight, it will be replaced by the remake of “Encantadia” with Sanya Lopez, Gabbi Garcia and Kylie Padilla. “Love of My Live” starring Carla Abellana and Rhian Ramos, will in turn be replaced by the former hit, “My Husband’s Lover,” which also starred Carla with Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo.
