GINA PAREÑO is a big hit on Tiktok where she acts and does millennial dance crazes as Lola Gets. She has no less than 1.6 million subscribers and 8 million views. At the Zoom press con of her new movie with Viva, “Tililing,” she revealed that doing Tiktok helped in preserving her sanity in this time of the pandemic.
“Nang mag-lockdown, halos mabaliw ako kasi wala akong ginagawa, walang trabaho, bawal lumabas ang senior citizens,” she said. “So nag-tiktok ako, at hindi na ako baliw ngayon.
Sa tiktok kasi, andami kong ginagawa. Nakakasayaw ako, nakakaarte ako, nakakapagpalit-palit ako ng mga damit at, higit sa lahat, I can communicate directly with my followers. So nakaraos ako, kaya thank you sa tiktok.”
Gina has been in the industry for 57 long years, but she now gets to play one of her most challenging roles ever in “Tililing,” which is about mental illness.
“I play Lola Soccoro,” she said. “Isa akong dating comfort woman. Nabaliw ako ng dahil sa pag-ibig, sobrang magmahal, at na-confine ako sa mental hospital.”
What is the craziest thing she has done in real life? She thought about it for a while before making a reply.
“Wala naman,” she said. “I don’t think may nagawa akong kabaliwan sa buhay ko. Never akong nabaliw ng dahil sa pag-ibig. Kasi pag ako umibig, honestly, mahal kita talaga at hindi kabaliwan ‘yun.”
Gina is happy to have worked with young director Darryl Yap who hit it big with “Jowable.”
“Magaganda ang ideas niya and I’m so happy na nakatrabaho ko ang isang batang director na kagaya niya.”
“Tililing” will open in theaters and on VivaMax on March 5. You can subscribe on vivamax.net or download VIVAMAX app on Google play for only P149 and you can watch all their shows.
He will make a good stepdad to Elias.
A hot item now is about the whirlwind romance between Ellen Adarna and Derek Ramsay who confirmed it with the incriminating photos they posted in their social media accounts.
The pictures show them being affectionate and they’ve admitted that something special is going on between them.
It seems Derek is truly smitten with Ellen as there’s even a picture showing him carrying Elias, the son of Ellen and John Lloyd Cruz, who’s seen sleeping on his lap. What a nice stepdad he could be indeed, as he has already demonstrated in the case of the daughter of his ex-girlfriend Joanne Villablanca with whom he was on with six years before their much talked-about breakup.
Ellen and Derek started becoming cozy just last month when Ellen had dinner with Ruffa Gutierrez in Derek’s new home in Ayala Alabang. Soon after that, they were seen bonding more frequently, with photos of them prominently displayed in their social media accounts.
As expected, cynical viewers are already predicting their relationship won’t last. They say:
“Magtitikiman lang yan at madaling magkakasawaan.” One netizen even said: “We’ll give them three months.” Here’s hoping that Ellen and Derek will prove their detractors wrong.
Xian Lim is hosting a game show for the first time in Viva’s “1000 Heartbeats – Pintig Pinoy.”
“I’ve hosted beauty pageants before but first time ko to host a game show,” he says. “Ever since, gusto ko talaga i-try ito kasi iba ang thrill at pakiramdam. This show is franchised from the UK. Our grand prize is P1 million.”
Each of the contestants will be given 1,000 heartbeats as time limit to answer some questions. With the help of a monitoring equipment, the players’ heart rates will be recorded throughout the game. The game is over once all 1000 heartbeats are registered.
Conversely, the way to win the cash prize is by keeping their cool under pressure in all seven rounds. During the Zoom press con, the full trailer of the show was shown.
“First time ko napanood ang trailer at tumaas talaga ang pintig ng puso ko while watching it,” says Xian. “I’m very excited for the viewers to watch the show as it’s really so thrilling.
I feel so honored to host it kasi it’s something new and different. Kawawa yung mabilis kabahan. Kapag mataas ang BP mo, dehado ka. But may paramedics standing by. There’s one time sumobra taas ng BP ng isang contestant and we had to check kung okay pa ba siya. Chad Kinis is with me as co-host to help calm down the contestants kapag masyado nang tensyonado with his funny antics.”
When was the last time he felt his heart raced in real life?
“When my house was robbed and ransacked recently. Some folks blame celebrities for showing their homes in their vlog. But you can’t just blame the victim kasi, ang puno at dulo niyan, bawal ang magnakaw. Vloggers just do what they have to do kung gusto nilang ipakita ang bahay nila.”
How about in his relationship with girlfriend Kim Chiu, does he still get tense about anything? “Sa relasyon with Kim, tapos na kami sa mga ganyan. Now, we are just doing our thing and we even share what we do sa publiko. As of now, tumahimik na naman. Di na kami naiintriga. Malakas pa rin ang pintig ng puso ko for Kim.”
“1000 Heartbeats-Pintig Pinoy” will air starting Sunday, March 21 at 8 p.m. Viewers can access it on TV5 and via the Cignal Play app.
Cassy Legaspi tries acting for the first time in GMA-7’s new show, “First Yaya.” So how is it so far?
“I started with TV commercials, then musical variety shows,” she says. “Sa first acting job ko, akala ko it’s just more of the same, but hindi pala. Mas nakakapagod siya, hindi na basta sayaw-sayaw, but so different, as you have to memorize lines, may emotions. But it’s so much fun. I’m also tired but I enjoy it all.”
What’s her role?
“I play Nina, the eldest of three kids of Gabby Concepcion,” she says. “Wala na kaming mother and I feel like I’m a neglected child of my dad, so I focus all my attention to my two younger siblings. Nina and me are very different. At first, I said, how am i gonna do this? She’s so not me. Hindi naman ako neglected child, thank God. But she just wants to be noticed by her dad and she fills the void with her siblings, Nicole and Nathan, as I don’t want my siblings to feel neglected kasi nga we don’t have a mom.”
She’s paired with Joaquin Domagoso, the son of Mayor Isko Moreno, and it’s obvious they’re being built up as a young love team. So how is it working with him?
“Well, they say may kemistri itong dalawa. When we did our scenes together, I get kilig.
When we get kilig, it’s so real. Even the crew, kinikilig. We’re now so comfortable with each other.
How is it doing lock in taping? “Sa lock-in taping, we feel safe kasi everyone follows health protocols. Mas focused ako sa work, so i’m happy na my very first taping is lock in. You also get to bond well with your co-actors. My parents always check me sa taping. They give reminders, did you have breakfast, napupuyat ka ba? I assure them I’m always a good girl on the set.”
