IN what could be the grandest, star-studded and superbly-organized provincial pageant anywhere in the country, Mutia Ti La Union 2020 crowned its new queens last Monday at Poro Point Baywalk, San Fernando, La Union.

The glittery event was one of the highlights of La Union’s 170th founding anniversary.

Divina Marie Ortiz Villanueva, an aspiring lawyer from Sudipen, was crowned as Mutia Ti La Union 2020, succeeding Meghan Sanglay, who also represented Sudipen.

Villanueva bested 19 other contestants representing the different municipalities and capital city of San Fernando to bag the coveted title on top of several special awards. As the top winner, she won P100,000 in cash and will be La Union’s ambassador in its vigorous campaign to become the heart of agri tourism in northern Luzon by 2025.

Crowned as Mutia Ti La Union Turismo was Fe Ladyma Abacco of Rosario, while Shaira May Soria of Pugo became the first-ever Mutia ti La Union Agrikultura. First runner-up was Christine Jan Padua of Balaoan and second runner-up was Roxanne Danielle Sanglay of the City of San Fernando.

The celebrity panel of judges included Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup Lee, designer Albert Andrada, actor Marco Gumabao, Ambassador Igor Khovaev of the Russian Federation, Pangasinan Rep. Christopher de Venecia and PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica.

Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up Venus Raj, Billy Crawford and Robi Domingo hosted the four-hour pageant, which also featured the performance of Iñigo Pascual.

Hats off to the Provincial Government of La Union headed by Gov. Pacoy Ortega, La Union information and tourism office and the entire production team of Lumina Events led by director Bernard Maybituin for a well-planned and excellently executed pageant.

Birthday greetings and a big thank you to reigning Mrs. Asia Pacific Global Avon Morales for involving us in her annual charity mission at Social Development Center Orphanage in Pasay City last weekend. Together with her fellow beauty queens from Queen of Hearts Philippines, Avon brought cheers to the children of the orphanage by way of entertainment, games and gift-giving. A mother of two and the HR head of a group of holdings companies, Avon turned 44 last Tuesday but looks no more than 30!
