The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) is set to start the construction of a spur road going to Sangley Airport in Cavite this year.
Mark Villar, DPWH secretary, told reporters in a recent tollroad inspection the agency targets to significantly complete the road construction by yearend.
The spur road is in addition to the plans of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. unit Cavite Infrastructure Corp. to construct a five-kilometer spur road that will connect Manila Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) to Sangley airport.
The CIC spur road is part of the P30-billion Cavitex Segment 5 extension project.
The spur road to Sangley airport will help ease travel to the facility.
President Duterte has directed the transfer of general aviation and turboprop cargo operations to Sangley airport to help decongest Ninoy Aquino International Terminal Airport.
The Sangley airport was inaugurated last November, initially for cargo aircraft.
