‘No need to import cement’

A consumer group yesterday said local cement producers have the capacity to meet the demand for government infrastructure projects.

Lokal Muna-Consumer Protection Watch in a statement said there is no need to import cement as the local industry has indicated several times it can fulfill demand.

The group also cited an ongoing campaign to support local industries and patronize local products as stated in the 2021 General Appropriations Act.

Under the 2021 GAA , the government as procuring entity is mandated to ensure that, whenever practicable, articles, materials, or supplies grown, produced or manufactured in the Philippines shall be preferred and used.

The Buy Lokal campaign, it said, would help industries recover from the effect of the pandemic.
