MerryMart to roll out ‘dark groceries’

MerryMart Consumer Corp. though unit MerryMart Grocery Centers Inc. has signed an agreement with FoodPanda Philipppines for the operation of a “dark grocery” store concept in the Philippines.

Dark grocery stores are branches that will solely cater to online deliveries within an area.

The first two dark grocery stores to be called PandarMart are set to start operations in Makati City and Manila City this October.

“PandaMart is FoodPanda’s instant grocery delivery service which covers convenience grocery goods, personal care essentials and other fast moving consumer goods,” MerryMart said.

Edgar Sia II, MerryMart chairman said the dark grocery will complement the expansion of the brick-and-mortar MerryMart branches which will serve both delivery and walk-in customers.

The partnership aims to deliver goods in just 15 minutes.

MerryMart currently has 11 operational branches and eyes to end the year with 25. It looks to open its 100th store by December next year.
