Measures vs market abuse in power planned

The Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) have recently issued new policies meant to protect power consumers in the country from market abuse.

PEMC will form a new governance committee at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market which will monitor compliance and oversee the investigation of violations made against market rules and manuals.

“The Compliance Committee (CC) takes over from the Market Surveillance Committee’s (MSC) current task of overseeing the compliance monitoring and investigation by the Enforcement and Compliance Office. Pending the creation of the CC and the appointment of its members, however, the MSC shall continue to perform the responsibilities of monitoring compliance and overseeing investigations,” said Oscar Ala, PEMC president.
