SMC starts extensive skills training for Bulacan residents

    San Miguel Corp. (SMC) in cooperation with the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) has launched its free livelihood and skills training program for Bulacan residents ahead of the construction of its P734-billion Manila International Airport in Bulakan, Bulacan.

    SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang said the massive training program that is open for all Bulacan residents is part of SMC’s job creation initiative to help Filipinos adapt to changing demands and benefit from opportunities that will emerge with the construction of the airport project in the province.

    SMC will pay for the tuition, assessment, trainor’s honoraria, meals, insurance, and transportation allowance of the initial participants, who are all former Barangay Taliptip residents. The pilot batch consists of 60 participants who will undergo 20 days of training in their chosen courses and three days of entrepreneurship training.

    Those who will opt for self-employment and set up their own business will be given tool kits like welding machines, sewing machines, and other equipment.

    Courses include shielded metal arc welding, electrical installation and maintenance, and heavy equipment operations. Meanwhile, courses such as dressmaking and cookery are offered for residents who want to be self-employed.

    Popeyes Philippines, known for having America’s famous fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits, is now open at Eton Centris in Quezon City.

    Aboitiz remittance to Cebu LGUs hit P40.6M

    Aboitiz Power Corp. said  its direct remittances to various Cebu local government units and barangays have reached P40.6 million as of end-September.

    The company said  through the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Regulations 1-94 (ER 1-94) program, it has  downloaded a total of P15.8 million to Cebu Province, Cebu City, Lapu- Lapu City and Toledo City as well as host barangays within these localities.

    Another P24.8 million from Cebu-based AboitizPower-led generation companies, accumulated as of 2019, has also been remitted by the DOE to the beneficiaries.

    While the ER 1-94 funds are primarily meant for the electrification of areas or households, development and livelihood programs, reforestation, watershed management, health, and environmental enhancement initiatives, a recent circular allowed the use of these shares to help mitigate the effects of the pandemic.

    The ER 1-94 Program stipulates that host communities will get a share of P0.01 for every kilowatt-hour generated by power plants operating in an area.

    Phoenix stations offer retail spaces

    Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. has partnered with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Energy to provide help to farmers and fisherfolk by allotting spaces in retail stations for the selling of agricultural goods.

    The company has provided spaces in retail stations in South and Central Luzon where farmers and fisherfolks may sell agricultural products from 6 a.m. to 2 pm daily up to December 31 this year.

    The firm is extending fuel assistance through a special discount scheme to farmers and fisherfolk in participating stations in the said regions for up to P4 until the end of the year.

    A dedicated fleet program will also be developed for farmer and fisherfolks with fuel requirements of at least 2,000 liters per month.

    As an additional help, Phoenix Petroleum will also be donating P50,000 worth of fuel which will be coursed through the DA.
