Cut wastage. The DOTr has deployed a dozen reefer vans since Palamigan ng Bayan, which aims to cut post-harvest losses, started in 2018.

The Departments of Agriculture (DA), Transportation (DOTR) and Energy (DOE) have partnered to provide farmers and fisherfolk with reefer vans to lessen post-harvest losses and increase food supply.

Under the tripartite agreement, the existing Palamigan ng Bayan program will be strengthened and expanded in strategic areas nationwide.

The DOTr has deployed a dozen reefer vans in Batangas, Romblon, Bohol, Bataan, Aurora, Bohol, Cagayan, Iloilo and Leyte since the program started in 2018.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said the expanded program will help reduce farm and fishery post-harvest losses which currently ranges from 15 to 30 percent.

Under the agreement, the DA will identify new priority areas where the reefer vans from DOTR will be established in partnership with qualified farmers’ and fishers’ groups while the DOE will ensure energy access for the efficient and uninterrupted operation of the facilities. – Jed Macapagal
