Globe Telecom Inc. is targeting to complete its massive network upgrades by 2021 to improve voice, mobile data and fixed broadband services nationwide.
At present, Globe said it is undertaking a massive network upgrade to build a first-world network. This includes accelerating cell site builds nationwide to expand coverage and increase data capacity, upgrading all its sites to fourth generation/Long Term Evolution (4G/LTE), while speeding up availability of the 5G network.
“This brings to the whole country improved voice experience with Voice over LTE and Voice over WiFi. For data, we see a more robust experience that will meet the demand for higher bandwidth and faster speeds,” said Ernest Cu, Globe president and chief executive officer, during a virtual press briefing.
Globe is also fast-tracking fiber rollout to homes to expand its wired data connectivity, especially at this time when homes have become a place of work, learning and business.
“As we target the completion of our network upgrades by 2021, expect a #1stWorldNetwork primed to serve Filipinos today and in the future. A reliable and dependable network will motivate Filipinos to adopt digital solutions with increasing trust and confidence to use technology in making their lives easier and more fulfilled,” Cu said.
During the event, Cu announced Globe’s new data service offerings this holiday season, Surf4All – a revolutionary, first-in-the-industry data offer that knows no boundaries that will allow subscribers to control exactly how to consume their data.
The new offer comes with 20 gigabytes for all sites, valid for seven days, at P249. Surf4All provides a single data wallet that is seamlessly accessible and shareable with up to four users across Globe brands – Globe Prepaid, Postpaid, Home Prepaid Wifi, and TM – for a worry-free experience where one is constantly connected regardless of brand, device and location.
Meanwhile, through the largest corporate incubator, 917Ventures, Globe partnered with Puregold to create PureGo, an online grocery shopping app that is easy and convenient to use. With PureGo, customers are assured their groceries will be delivered the next day as they use multiple payment options including GCash.
GLife, the newest GCash app feature, also provides more gift and food options across different brands and e-commerce platforms, ranging from Lazada, Puregold, DataBlitz, PureGo, Boozy, Goldilocks, Goama Games and more.

For this year, Globe has allocated P50 billion for capital expenditures and it is expected to increase that by at least 20 percent in 2021, according to Fitch Ratings’ recent report. – M. Iglesias
