Civil work contracts for railway awarded


    The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has awarded the five civil work contracts for the 53-kilometer Philippine National Railway (PNR) Malolos-Clark Railway project to meet the target of partial operations by the end of the Duterte administration.

    Three contract packages were awarded this month and two were signed last month.

    The notice of award for contract package N-01 was given to the joint venture of Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd., Megawide Construction Corp. and Dong-ah Geological Engineering Co. Ltd.

    Contract package N-01 covers 17 kms. of elevated rail viaduct, seven balanced cantilever bridges and two station buildings in Malolos and Calumpit in Bulacan, and in the towns of Apalit and Minalin in Pampanga.

    Contract package N-02, which covers 16 kms. of elevated viaduct and one station building in Minalin, Sto. Tomas and San Fernando in Pampanga, was awarded to the joint venture of Acciona Construction Philippines and Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd.

    Contract package N-03, which covers 12 kms. of elevated viaduct and one station building in San Fernando, Angeles and Mabalacat in Pampanga, was awarded to Italian-Thai Development Public Company Ltd.

    Last month, DOTr signed a contract with Spain’s Acciona Construction Philippines and EEI Corp. for 6.3 kms. of the main line and the depot’s access line.

    It also inked a contract with Korea’s POSCO Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd. for the civil works to build 33 hectares covering the Clark railway depot, including construction of the operations control center, stabling yard, workshops, training center and other ancillary buildings in Mabalacat.

    Meanwhile, Junn Magno, PNR general manager, said the progress of the PNR Clark Phase 2 remains on track.

    As of August, the Malolos-Clark segment has an overall progress rate of over 26 percent.
    PNR Clark Phase 1, Tutuban to Malolos segment, has over 40 percent.

    PNR Clark Phase 2 is the 53-km. northern segment of the 147-km. North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) System, which will run from Clark to Calamba, Laguna.
