BIR readies reshuffle

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is expected to submit to the Department of Finance (DOF) a list of tax personnel that will be reassigned, following the President’s reshuffle order.

“Following the President’s directive, we are waiting for the BIR to submit to us their proposed movement of officers/personnel for my approval,” Carlos Dominguez, DOF secretary, told reporters in a Viber group yesterday.

“(BIR) Commissioner (Caesar) Dulay is in the best position to identify these officers and personnel, and recommend to me their new places of assignment,” he added.

President Duterte, in a public address last Monday, ordered Dulay to submit a list of the tax agency’s officials that can be covered by the reassignment.

“A reshuffle will largely address the familiarity of revenue officers with taxpayers vis-a-vis their audit duties/functions in their current assignments,” Dominguez said.

“The commissioner’s judgment in determining the assignments of the revenue officers in the different areas has in the past improved collection efficiency that resulted to increase in collection in taxes in various revenue regions,” he added. – Angela Celis
