The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) has issued an order to Manila Water Co. Inc. and Maynilad Water Services Inc. to grant all customers with another set of relief on their bills.
Customers who failed to settle their bills falling due on August 4 to 18 even after the 30-day grace period which lapsed September 4 to 18, can now pay in three monthly installments.
These cover domestic or residential customers, cooperatives and micro, small and medium enterprises.
In a statement, MWSS-RO chief regulator Patrick Ty, said the directive will provide customers ample time to update payments for water bills that fell due within the modified enhanced community quarantine in August without incurring interests, penalties and other charges.
Prior to this latest order, the regulatory body also asked the concessionaires last July to grant a similar relief to customers for bills from March to May.
Starting today (October 1), the concessionaires can send disconnection notices but Ty assured that no actual disconnection will happen as long as customers will apply for promissory notes.
Ty said the two concessionaires have expressed this is the best relief they can offer to consumers as their cash flows are affected.
