AirAsia passenger volume plunges

AirAsia Philippines reported a 97 percent decline in passenger volume in the third quarter this year versus the same period last year, but is optimistic of a strong growth in the domestic market by 2021.

In a statement, Malaysia-based AirAsia Berhad, parent firm of AirAsia Philippines, said the airline carried 67,880 passengers in July to September, a significant reduction from the 2.1 million passengers it flew in the third quarter of last year.

Load factor also dropped by 30 percentage points to 56 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The airline operated only 5 percent of last year’s capacity in the third quarter.
